First
of NOVEMBER
From Jim Keenan:
Sorry, this is so late this month; November had some unexpected
challenges.
In addition to the four essays below that have appeared in journals
in Europe and the US, I want to call your attention to a few issues.
Before I do that, do not hesitate to send me news to post here.
First, on November 28, three of the original members of the planning
committee, Renzo Pegoraro, Linda Hogan and I are meeting in Amsterdam
to review the evaluations and to plan for the future. I will contact
you on December 1 about the outcome.
Second, the essays for Catholic Theological Ethics in the World
Church: The Plenary Papers from Padua (Continuum, 2007) are
almost all in and on January 15 I submit them to Continuum. I hope
to see them out by the end of summer 2007. The Italian, German,
Fernch and Spanish papers have been already translated into English.
Third, Linda Hogan has nearly finished the selection process for
the applied ethics papers and her volume will be called Traditions
in Dialogue: Applied Ethics in a World Church (Maryknoll: Orbis,
2007). Editing and translating is just now beginning.
Finally, From John Mary Waliggo
Very warm greetings from Kampala, Uganda.
Today, Saturday 11th November, with a group of ten
moral and ethical Catholic Theologians and
Philosophers, we have officially established the
Uganda Chapter of the East African English-Speaking
Association formed at Padova last July. We have
elected our Coordinator and Chapter Secretary. We
have indentified 15 other experts to be included in
the Chapter's membership. We have spent much time on
identifying the major moral ethical challenges facing
our country. Each member has chosen a theme or topic
to research on. We have concluded the one-day meeting
with joy and great hope for the future.
All this would have never happened had Padova not been
there. As I shared my impressions at Padova and the
impact it made and the general conclusions that seemed
to emerge from it and the need to keep the spirit of
Padova moving, all participants seemed to agree that
Padova was a great and prophetic event.
I very much hope, similar Chapters in Kenya and Tanzania have been
formed or are to be formed soon, so that our regional
body meets during the first half of next year.
