A Discussion List-serve Among Moral Theologians

A discussion list of (currently approx. 90) professional, primarily Catholic, moral theologians exists on the internet with the name "moralth". The list is "private",  meaning that one can only send and receive its mailings if one is subscribed. Qualified professionals may subscribe by contacting the "list-owner", stating one's qualifications in moral theology. The task of the list-owner is merely to add and delete subscriptions. The list is not monitored and mailings are not screened. Contact: Joseph.Selling@theo.kuleuven.be

Redemptorists Hold Their 6th  International  Moral Theology Congress

Over 60 Redemptorist moral theologians from 27 countries gathered in Bogota ,  Columbia ,  from the 16th to the 21st of July,   for their 6th Moral Theology Congress.   The Major Theme was Violence and Terrorism:  A Moral Response.   Different talks treated the subject from Anthropological,  psychological, and  sociological  viewpoints.   Then the matter was analyzed from a reflection on the 3 major monotheistic religions of Judaism,  Christianity and Islam, and whether religion contribute to the spread of violence.   Other reflections included a treatment of what the Old Testament says, then what did Jesus really said about using violence.  Also included were talks on the   Church´s  tradition on the use of violence,  the Just War theory and Holy Wars.  Finally there were presentations about Christian Ethics and Human Rights,  Moral Education to avoid violence and Pastoral work in the face of Violence.  The common feeling that just about all the participants took away is that war can never again be justified,  it is a sign of human failure and not a viable option for action.

The talks should be ready in English for publication sometime in 2007,   through the courtesy of the General Government of the Redemptorists.
